HEBREWS 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Understanding the Scripture | “Restore Again the Kingdom of Israel”

In the last blog post, I emphasized the importance of interpreting the Scriptures through a spiritual lens rather than a physical lens. And in this post, we will continue to do so:

Jesus, after his death, burial, and resurrection, appears to the disciples for 40 days, speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” (Acts 1:3). Jesus teaches the disciples for a whole month and a half that “except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God(John 3:3). Jesus teaches the disciples that they must “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness” (Matthew 6:33). Jesus takes time to teach his disciples that the “kingdom of God shall be taken from you (the nation of Israel), and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.” (Matthew 21:43). Jesus teaches that “hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!” (Mark 10:23).

Then, as he stands on the mount of olives preparing to ascend to the Father to sit at his right hand, they ask a question that I can only imagine would make Jesus think “Did I not just teach you these things for forty days?”.

“Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:3). The disciples had a desire to see a physical kingdom set up on the earth, and for Christ to rule and reign on earth.

The problem here is that the disciples were still thinking physically when they should have been thinking spiritually.

There is a powerful, spiritual kingdom that has been established by Christ Jesus, and he desires that we would seek it first!

As we come upon another election cycle in America we are a very divided country. There are people, on both sides of the political spectrum, who are dogmatic about their beliefs on how the country should be run.

I am not writing this to influence you on whom to vote for, rather I’m writing this so that you would think biblically about your role as a Christian in our nation.

We are not called to “restore again the kingdom of Israel”; if you will. Christ spent his earthly ministry teaching all those that there is a spiritual kingdom that is far greater than any earthly kingdom.

We are a part of a spiritual kingdom that has no obligations to force upon any earthly kingdom. Christ did not come for us to set up kingdoms, nations, or empires but rather that we would be witnesses of his resurrection and His saving power.

It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power.” (Acts 1:7). God, the Father, sits upon His throne in heaven and is very aware of the political state of every nation, and knows who is in power and their actions toward His people.

Our call as Christians and citizens of heaven stays the same regardless of the current political state of our country. We must continue to preach the gospel; we must continue to reach the lost.

So, as we read in our Bibles, and as we study: Let’s remember that we are not called to establish a nation by which Christ will rule and reign. We are called to be His witness, regardless of the type of government that rules.

One day he that is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war (Revelation 19:11), will descend upon earth and will establish a visible kingdom. But until then, preach the Gospel, and reach the lost.

“For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” Hebrews 13:14

One response to “Understanding the Scripture | “Restore Again the Kingdom of Israel””

  1. Excellent. By the way. Physically, this Thursday, 9 May is Ascension Day. That might have Spiritual significance, if we considered it at all, maybe spent some time meditating on these things. Love. Grandpa Rice
